Leading Topic:

Designing the new Design Museum in Mexico City’s Paseo De La Reforma.

Site Description:

The site is located in the busy Paseo De La Reforma, which is one of Mexico City’s most important Business and Cultural districts.

Project Description:

The project was to design a new Design Museum for Mexico City in one of the busiest commercial centers of the city. Our concept utilizes the site’s location and shape and envisages an elongated mass along the main axis of the site rising elegantly from the ground and creating a canopy in the southern edge of the building, used as the main entrance point for the visitors. This canopy shape is meant to create a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere, essentially shielding the visitors from the hustle and bustle of Mexico City.

The museum section will have light beige concrete surface engraved with ancient Aztec patterns to link the modern building with Mexico’s rich cultural heritage. While the educational/office section will have a more subdued dark surface made of fiber cement panels, creating a contrast between the two masses.
